I for one believe in the first theory it just makes more sense to me. since the official comics and the game, Nosgoth both confirm he went into the time chamber directly after executing Raziel. and we know for sure Kain discovered the time chamber by then. whether he did it for jealousy or for some grand purpose it would always happen how it happened.īut there is also about a 500 to 1000 year time jump between Raziel being executed and his resurrection. but since kain is fated to throw him in he would always throw him into the abyss no matter what.

Kain didn't know he was the soul in the reaver when he tossed him in the abyss.

Kain had plenty of time to discover the time chamber and witness all of history and spent years to formulate a plan to change it.

There is about a 1500 time gap between blood omen and soul reaver.

It has happened and will happen and you can't just choose to change it - Kain found loopholes that delayed it but it was inevitable in the end. Same applies to Raziel going into the sword. Also the way history works in Nosgoth is such that he couldn't have simply chosen not to do it. He knew Raziel had to go in the Abyss because he saw that he had done it. Ultimately the answer to your question is that Kain has been studying the Chronoplast for years and has seen what would come to pass and what had happened in the past (and where he had opportunities to make alterations).

The blade shattered in SR1 because he couldn't devour a past version of himself. Raziel was and always has been the entity within the Reaver - that's why it devours souls, that's why it called the Soul Reaver when it was the Reaver originally.
